What data we collect and why
Subscribers and purchasers
When you purchase a subscription, a single copy, or a sponsorship through our site, we collect your name, email address, shipping address, and payment information. Payment is processed through Stripe — we never store your card details. We use your shipping address to mail your copy of the magazine. We use your email to send order confirmations and shipping notifications.
Contact and inquiry forms
If you fill out our sponsor inquiry form or contact form, we collect your name, email, and any information you choose to include. We use this only to respond to your inquiry.
Comments
If you leave a comment on the site we collect the data shown in the comment form, your IP address, and browser information to help with spam detection. Approved comments and profile pictures are visible publicly.
Email signups
If you sign up for our mailing list, we collect your email address. We use it to send occasional updates about the magazine, submission calls, and events. You can unsubscribe at any time from any email we send.
Media uploads
If you upload images to the site, avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can potentially extract location data from images downloaded from the site.
Cookies
Our site uses cookies in the following ways:
If you leave a comment and opt in, your name, email, and website are saved in cookies for one year so you do not have to re-enter them next time.
If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie is set to check if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
If you log in, cookies are set to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last two days, display cookies last one year. If you select Remember Me, your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
WooCommerce sets cookies to keep track of your cart and order information during your session. These are necessary for the shop to function.

Who we share your data with
We do not sell your data to anyone.
We share data only with the services that help us operate the magazine:
Stripe — payment processing. Their privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy
Pirateship or USPS — shipping label generation and delivery. Your shipping address is used only to deliver your order.
Mailchimp or similar — email list management. Your email address is used only to send you communications you opted into.
Gravatar — if you comment on the site, an anonymized version of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check for a profile picture. Their privacy policy: automattic.com/privacy
Spam detection services — visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.
How long we keep your data
Order records are kept for a minimum of 7 years for accounting and legal purposes.
Email addresses on our mailing list are kept until you unsubscribe.
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
User account information is kept as long as you have an account. You can request deletion at any time.
Your rights
You can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. You can request that we delete your personal data. You can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time. You can update your account information by logging in or contacting us directly.

Where your data is stored
Our website is hosted on Kinsta. Your data is stored on servers in the United States. WooCommerce order data is stored on our WordPress installation on Kinsta’s infrastructure.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our data practices change and note the date of the last update at the top. We will not notify you individually of minor changes but will notify subscribers by email of any significant changes to how we handle personal data.
